A Private Home Cinema Room Installation on a Scottish Estate
This Home Cinema Room Installation on a Scottish Shooting & Fishing Estate was a pleasure to design. Due to the huge amounts of space available the client was able to re-purpose an entire cottage to be a home cinema – this home cinema is in it’s own stand alone stone built cottage!
The client brief was clear – deliver a very high end home cinema room with seating for at least 8 people (the clients like to entertain!). We therefore decided to go as big as possible on the screen (a 3.8m wide Screen Excellence Enlightor 4K Acoustically Transparent Fixed Frame was chosen) coupled with a Sony 4K laser projector and Artcoustic speaker package. The acoustically transparent screen allows us to build the front sound stage (front left, center, front right and 2 x subwoofers!) in to a void behind the screen – ensuring a very close relationship between audio and video.
Once the screen size was determined we determined three rows of seating was easily possible with each row accommodating four people. All seating is from the Cineak Intimo range with the front row being made up of day bed style seating – creating the perfect space to relax and enjoy a film and providing a lovely space for the family to relax. The rear two rows of seats are more traditional cinema seats, all finished in the highest quality leather. Each row of seating benefits from a pair of Artcoustic on-wall surround speakers, ensuring the same audio experience regardless of where in the cinema you happen to sit. Audio from above (for 3D audio like Dolby Atmos) is handled by Artcoustic in-ceiling speakers for a truly immersive cinema sound.
Home Cinema Acoustic Design
As part of the design package we performed a full acoustic design – modelling from the ground up to ensure the best possible performance of all equipment. As part of this process we specified stretched fabric walls and ceilings – hiding the surround speakers from view and allowing us to install acoustic treatments where required. The result is a home cinema room which looks amazing (with a nod to it’s location and roots) whilst incorporating a very high level of technology. We were even able to design in a small bar area and spiral staircase leading to an upstairs powder room. A truly stunning home cinema room!
Full Crestron Lighting Control & Room Control
A full lighting design ensures subtle yet practical lighting whether watching a film, navigating to your seat or simply enjoying the space. Control of all cinema equipment is via an Apple iPad interface running a bespoke Crestron app. One button press starts the projector, dims the lights, switches the amplifiers on and to the correct source and displays video content. It is a very simple system to use for the home owners or guests. All lighting scenes can be adapted by using the same interface and then recalled by tapping a button on the lighting keypad by the door.
